1) Names of the functions listed below are conventional! It will be a mistake to derive contents and semantics of the function out of its conventional name. Instead, please read the contents of the middle column of the table.

2) The functions used in the Myers-Briggs Type Watching are different from these by their contents.

V.Gulenko's symbols (Roman letters) are rarely used now, because using them results in confusion—in MBTI Type Theory the same letters have quite a different meaning. However, these letters are used as codes for socionic symbols in the Socionic font, which you can download from our site.

Functions of Judgment (Rational Functions)

Contents: Methodology, logical sequence of events, technology, algorithm, action, synthesis of facts ("making a moving machine out of static parts").

Manifestation: calculation, criticism, understanding the process, technology, making it independent from the human factor; pedantry, skepticism, stubbornness.

Lat. emoveo (I excite), Engl. emotion, excitement

Contents: Emotions of people, emotional evaluation of their actions. The sense of ethicality of people's internal impulses. Enthusiasm, grief, passion, sense of humor.

Manifestation: evaluation of other people by concordance of their emotions to one's own; personal and interested perception of situations, drawing people's attention on other things and people, derision of hollow mental constructions.

Lat. lex (law), Engl. law, logic

Contents: Objective regularities, laws. Structure, system, order, analysis of facts (understanding components of the whole).

Manifestation: rather qualitative than quantitative analysis; objective evaluation of people and situation (what will not change when these people are replaced with others), understanding structures, hierarchy, principles. Indifference to "not important" things (e.g. "we can sacrifice this for the sake of that").

Lat. relatio (relation), Engl. relation

Contents: Love, hate, sympathy, antipathy, feeling of ethicality or non-ethicality of relations, human qualities, desire etc.

Manifestation: dividing people into "ours" and "theirs"; improving relations with "ours"; revealing people's qualities; looking for permanent and stable relations; relations are like a game where "ours" understand rules without explaining, while "theirs" will play badly even being given a detailed explanation.

Contents: Feeling of potential capabilities, possibilities, understanding persistence or potential troubles of objects and phenomena. Evolutional approach to events (not just in Darwin's sense but in the broadest sense of the word 'evolution').

Manifestation: speculations on possibilities and capabilities, comparison, "if I were you..."; understanding the essence without the need of redundant details. "General human values". Reading between the lines. Dedication. Intellectual independence.

Contents: Shape of objects, their location in space, territory.

Manifestation: evaluation of space resources, taking control over space, understanding influence of other people (how much space and resources they control). Accumulation of resources. Prestige. Influence.

Contents: Development of events in time, feeling of timeliness, imagination, fortune, destiny.

Manifestation: hesitations, choosing the "right" option, internal anxiety, meditation, reflection, developing or choosing the right ideology.

Lat. sensus (sense, feeling), Engl. sense

Contents: Sense of pleasant and unpleasant, comfortable and uncomfortable, physical and esthetical satisfaction, good quality.

Manifestation: strive for comfort, good working conditions, avoiding redundant efforts, stable and non-conflicting relations with colleagues (but not for leadership). Evaluation of one's own and other people's sensations.
